papernstitch is an online exhibition space that was created to promote talented artists, designers, and makers selling handmade goods. the exhibition space is curated monthly and showcases the best of the best on an international level. hence our tagline: hand-picked. handmade.
the site is maintained by and was created by brittni and jeff. brittni is an artist and was previously a high-school art teacher. and is now a contributing editor for bloesem kids, writing the open house tour interviews, and a contributing editor for scoutie girl, writing the fine art features. before papernstitch (site and blog), brittni founded an online magazine called createjacksonville (rip) in 2006, which featured artists and makers in the surrounding jacksonville area.
jeff is a designer, and web application developer. ever since the two met in a figure drawing class in 2005, they have wanted to collaborate on a project together. three years later, in october of 2008, it became a reality with the official launch of the site.
in addition to wanting to collaborate on a project together, there was another, more important reason why the site was created. brittni, as an artist herself, felt she was always struggling to get her work seen, but she just didn’t have the means to do so. she had a website and a shop, but needed an extra boost. she thought, if she was having trouble, there most be others with the same issue. and that is how papernstitch came to fruition.
brittni curates the online exhibitions on the site and runs the blog. jeff designed and built the site, and is the one to ask about the technical stuff.
